A Socratic Dinner follows the spirit of Plato’s Symposium which famously describes the celebrated Athenian philosopher, Socrates, leading his dinner companions through a sophisticated teasing out of ideas to reveal those values which influence the important decisions we make in our lives.

We can accommodate groups at other times or topics if you would like to get a group together yourself.

Socratic Dinners are limited to a maximum of fifteen participants and run from 6:30pm-11pm.

The upstairs meeting room in the Library in North Carlton provide an excellent opportunity for an extended dialogues experience in a relaxed atmosphere on Saturdays.

The library is on the corner of Rathdowne and Newry Streets, North Carlton and all day parking is available in the eastern stretch of Newry Street.

We would begin at 10am and conclude at 5pm with morning and afternoon tea provided. Participants can enjoy lunch at any of the outlets in the ‘Rathdowne Village’ or bring their own.

The Facilitator

Therese van Wegen, was trained in Modern Socratic Dialogue by

Australia’s foremost facilitator, Stan van Hooft.

Both attended the Fifth International Conference on Socratic Dialogue in Berlin in 2005
